GOD BALL – 2008
God Ball is a kinetic installation. As the pink moon rotates the moths are attracted to the sphere by hidden magnets causing them to knock their metal heads rhythmically against their glass cases.
This rhythmic tinkling is reminiscent of the sound of moths and other insects hitting against the studio windows in the loft space of the Good Hatchery. This work is inspired by the consistent power of instinct in the natural world. It was this instinctual activity of the insects that intrigued me as I was lost as to what to do idly passing away the night in my brightly lit studio space.
God Ball was exhibited as part of God Ball ; Ruth E Lyons’ solo show in Grennan Mill, Kilkenny Arts Festival 2008
